Llandrindod Wells 5 Hirwaun 22

After a delayed start to the season with Llanrumney unable to field a team last weekend the Brocks made the trip to face Llandrindod Wells.

In a low scoring first half Llandrindod showed a huge amount of determination and threw everything at Hirwaun, but the defensive effort from the Brocks was excellent, captain David Norwell, paddy McBride and Dai Llewelyn especially put in some very big hits and the try line remained intact. The returning Rhys Stone made some exciting half breaks, hopefully a sign of things to come once he is back to full fitness. Brother Callum also making some strong runs into the Llandrindod defence. A penalty from Dai Llewelyn opened the scoring and in fact were the only points scored in the first half. Llandrindod lost a player to the sin bin as the half came to an end

Hirwaun took advantage of the sin bin as the second half got underway with a try apiece for captain David Norwell and vice captain Joel Dunning, both converted by Dai Llewelyn. The Hirwaun team settled into their stride and there were exciting runs from the entire back line as The Brocks looked to push their advantage, this was aided by the pack who after an indifferent start were gaining parity in the scum and securing good possesion from the lineout. Patterns worked on through the pre season were now very much in evidence and Hirwaun began to dominate large parts of the game. A third try was almost scored by Brett Law who unfortunately mistook the 5 yard line for the try line and grounded the ball there! Finally the third try came when back row replacement Huw Morris crossed the line after some excellent forward play. Only some determined defence from Llandrindod prevented the bonus point try with Hirwaun going close on a number of occasions before Llandrindod scored a deserved try of their own through winger Ben Williams
